Tēnā koutou, and thank you for the opportunity to share with you today.

I’m Angela McLeod, a long-time Upper Hutt resident, business owner, and a former councillor and I am standing for Mayor because I believe our city is ready for a refresh — one that brings trusted leadership, innovative thinking, and real partnership with our business community.

As a co-owner of a successful local business, I understand the realities of running a business — balancing budgets, managing staff, navigating regulations, and adapting to change. I’ve worked in retail, advertising, and business development, and I’ve led successful teams in both the private and public sectors. I know what it takes to grow a business in Upper Hutt, I know the challenges of staying in business and I am prepared to support others achieve their goals. 

I bring proven governance experience, having chaired and served on ministerial advisory committees, local, national and international NGO boards and committees, and multiple council committees.  I have advised MPs and NGOs on policy, communications, and governance. I’ve developed business plans, negotiated employment agreements, and overseen financial reporting. I’m a strategic thinker, a problem solver, and a relationship builder

As Mayor, I will champion transparent, fiscally responsible leadership and a business-friendly council that listens, responds, and acts. I will work with you on an economic development strategy which reflects the needs of local businesses — from startups to established enterprises, and the CBD.

Upper Hutt is full of potential. With developments like Brewtown, Lane Street Studios, and the NZ Campus of Innovation and Sport, we’re poised for transformation. I want to make sure that transformation is strategic, inclusive, and future-focused.
