Good morning, and thank you for the warm welcome. It’s a privilege to speak with members of Probus today — people who have contributed so much to Upper Hutt through your careers, your community involvement, and your wisdom.

You know the value of good leadership, and you understand the importance of a city that works for everyone.

Upper Hutt residents have raised concerns that deserve our attention. Many feel that rates are rising without clear improvements. There’s frustration over the lack of kerbside recycling, the condition of our roads, and the pace of development.

People want better communication from Council, more transparency, and a city centre thatfeels alive and welcoming. These are not just complaints — they’re calls for responsible leadership.

As Mayor, I would be in a position to deliver real change. The Mayor sets the tone for how Council operates — how it listens, how it spends, and how it plans for the future.

A Mayor can ensure that your rates are used wisely, that infrastructure is maintained and improved, and that services reflect the needs of all residents, including our older citizens.

A Mayor can advocate for better transport options, safer streets, and community spaces that are accessible and inclusive. And a Mayor can ensure that Council decisions are made with transparency and integrity — so you know what’s happening, why it’s happening, and how it benefits Upper Hutt.

I believe I can deliver because I bring experience, commitment, and a genuine love for this city. I’ve worked with our community for years, and I understand the importance of listening and acting with purpose. I know how Council works — and I know how it can work better.I will lead with integrity, communicate openly, and make decisions that reflect thevalues of Upper Hutt.

I will ensure that our city grows in a way that respects our environment, our heritage, and our people. And I will make sure that older residents — who have built the foundations of this community — are never overlooked.

Upper Hutt is a city with heart, and together, we can make it even better.
